8/10 for looks, 2/10 for performance
$8.99 for crop pants
$16.99 for T-shirt
My Mum loves shopping at Aldi's. Even if she needs nothing she comes home with something and I have to admit, some of their products are value for quality. The Atlas Fly Catcher (see review) for example, is billiant.
The metalic grey with pink contrasts looked lovely and the blurb on the packaging made them sound like the perfect thing to wear when exercising and sweating.
- Hydrophilic finish regulates body moisture
- Breathable
The fabric used is Polyester. When I go shopping for summer clothes I am constantly mystified by the use of Polyester as the main fabric on offer. Looks pretty and as long as you never leave the comfort of air conditioning it stays looking that way. But sweat even a little bit and that pretty fabric starts sticking to your skin like peanut paste to a blanket, your own portable personal sauna, which causes you to start plucking at it with your fingers where it's sticking so your body can breathe. In climates with high humidity polyester could be used for torture. Wrap me up in polyester, put me in a sauna and I would confess to anything if it meant release.
But the blurb on the back says
Transports moisture away from the body and keeps you dry and comfortable.
This could be a new Super Polyester and at the price I was willing to give it a try.
Thought I looked pretty good wearing it even if the untrained eye could assess my body fat levels with one glance, but the metalic look of the fabric would act like a neon sign under headlights and protect me from becoming road kill.
Within ten minutes I was beginning to doubt the claims in the blurb. The parts of my body exposed to the night air felt relatively cool in comparison, but the rest of me was starting to get that wrapped in plastic feeling. Looking hot and getting hot sit at two different ends of the pleasure spectrum and the thought of burning a few extra calories through sweating didn't alter the meter. By the time I got home forty minutes later the areas around the neck on both the front and back of the Fitness T-Shirt were soaked. Access to the stated qualities must be password protected and I couldn't find the activation code anywhere. On the upside, I didn't get run over.
VERDICT
Polyester will never feature in my summer wardrobe although I will try wearing it again in winter because I'm pretty sure it will block out the chill and keep me warm.
